PhycoVac:

Advancing Oral Vaccines for Aquaculture

We are developing PhycoVac, a new microalgae‑based oral vaccines in aquaculture that addresses key challenges in fish health management.

What is PhycoVac?

PhycoVac is a research and development initiative focused on engineering microalgae to produce protective viral antigens that can be delivered through aquaculture feed. The platform is designed to integrate disease control directly into normal feeding routines, improving animal welfare.

Purpose and Value:

  • Effective disease protection:The first target is to verify the efficiency of the platform using a significant pathogen in salmon aquaculture.
  • Platform flexibility: The genetic design we have completed provides a foundation that can be adapted and updated as pathogen sequences evolve.

Deliverables and Impact:

PhycoVac combines our expertise in microalgal cultivation and biotechnology with pilot‑scale process development:

Adaptability: The platform is designed to allow expansion to additional diseases and aquaculture species as needed.

Feed Integration: Developing formulations that deliver the vaccine through standard aquafeed systems.
